High School and Junior Performances Highlight This Week's Performance of the Week ListThe focus this week was on high school and junior athletes with New Balance Nationals Outdoor and the USATF Junior Championships. The former crowned high school national champions and the latter crowned US U20 champions and determined the team that will represent the US at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland. Dana Baker: The high school senior from Olathe North KS won the javelin at the USATF Junior Championships with a throw of 178-1 (54.28m). She is now fourth on the prep all-time performer list. Tamari Davis: The high school freshman from Gainesville FL was a double champion at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, winning the 100 meters in 11.19 and the 200 meters in 22.98. Her 100 time ties her for 13th on the prep all-time performer list. Juan Miguel Echevarria: The Cuban jumper won the long jump at the Ostrava Golden Spike with a leap of 28-5 (8.66m). That ranks him 10th on the world all-time performer list. Taylor Ewert: The high school sophomore from Beavercreek OH won the 2,000-meter steeplechase at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in 6:38.79 and then won the 10,000-meter race walk the next day at the USATF Junior Championships in an American U-20 record of 49:07.52. Kyle Garland: The high school senior from Germantown Academy PA won the decathlon at the USATF Junior Championships with 7,562 points. That ranks him fifth all-time using junior implements and high school hurdles. Cailie Logue: The Iowa State freshman won two titles at the USATF Junior Championships, winning the 5,000 meters in 16:15.47 and the 3,000 meters in 9:34.72. James Mwaura: The high school senior from Lincoln WA finished second in the high performance 5,000 meters at the Stumptown Twilight, running 14:00.42. That is good for ninth on the outdoor prep all-time list and 10th on the absolute list. Northport NY Boys: The quartet of Thomas Fodor, Dan O'Connor, Elijah Claiborne and Isaiah Claiborne won the 4x800 relay at New Balance National Outdoor in 7:31.62, good for fifth on the prep all-time list. Adrian Piperi: The Texas freshman won the shot put at the USATF Junior Championships with a throw of 70-6.50 (21.50m). That is good for third on the U.S. U-20 all-time list with the 6-kilogram shot. Cory Poole: The Florida freshman won both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles at the USATF Junior Championships, becoming the first athlete since 2003 to double. He ran 13.34 for the 110-meter hurdles and 49.71 for the 400-meter hurdles. Katelyn Tuohy: The high school sophomore from North Rockland NY broke the high school mile record at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, running 4:33.87. Western Branch VA Girls: The quartet of Natajah Ballard, Jazmine Tilmon, Adriana Shockley and Shadajah Ballard broke the high school record in the 4x100 shuttle hurdles relay, running 54.67.
